Objective: to carry out a documentary study on the legal aspects that support the nurses' performance in the Integrative and Complementary Practices (PIC) and to discuss the panorama of teaching, research, extension and nursing activities in front of PICs. Method: documentary study, whose units of analysis were normative, guidelines, recommendations and clarification notes (n = 17). The data were organized into two categories: "Legal aspects of nurses' performance in ICP and acupuncture" and "Overview of the use of ICPs by nursing in the areas of teaching, research, extension and assistance activities". Results: nurses stand out in the implementation of PIC since the principles of training are congruent to the paradigms of this science, besides having legal support for acting in public and private services in Brazil. There is an incipient movement of nurses working in research and extension in universities, which contributes to the diffusion of knowledge and application of therapies in the community. Conclusion: the institutionalization of PICs in the Unified Health System has increased access and contributed to the provision of comprehensive and multidisciplinary health services. Implications for practice: with ICPs, nurses have achieved autonomy and the possibility of expanding their performance, aiming at a better quality of care.

“…Along this path, we can observe an increase in the supply of these practices, especially in Primary Health Care (PHC), with two public policy updates -including 14 practices in 2017 and another 10 in 2018 -, in addition to the growing public approval and increase in the number of scientific studies on the topic. However, as challenges, we emphasize the focus on the dissemination of practices whose conceptions are rooted in allopathic medicine; and the need for greater insertion of integrative and complementary health practices (ICHP) in undergraduate and graduate education, increased budgetary allocation for this purpose in the management of public policy, expansion of professional qualification for these therapies, supply of resources, and specific regulation on practices, based on scientific evidence (2)(3)(4) .…”

Reiki therapy in the Unified Health System: meanings and experiences in integral health care

Objectives: to understand the meanings of Reiki therapy in the Unified Health System, based on the experiences of users and therapists. Methods: thematic oral history study, conducted with 12 users and 11 Reiki therapists, in three public health services, in the city of São Paulo, SP, in 2018. The interviews were transcribed and categorized, through thematic content analysis, with the help of the Atlas.ti software. Results: for the interviewees, Reiki activates a universal energy, offering benefits to the body, mind, and spirit. The engagement of therapists in such practice was motivated by the desire to carry out voluntary work. Users claim to seek this therapy to overcome a state of suffering and use natural practices. Final Considerations: the meanings and experiences with Reiki therapy are many, but they converge in the understanding of this practice as a producer of health, well-being, and quality of life, through care centered on the integral human being.

Resumo Objetivo Analisar a utilização do Processo de Enfermagem na prática da acupuntura, no período de 1997 a 2015. Método Qualitativo, com abordagem Histórico-Social, por meio da história oral temática aplicada a 20 enfermeiras especialistas em acupuntura, fundamentado na Sociologia das Profissões, de Eliot Freidson. Da análise temática, construíram-se duas categorias: Processo de Enfermagem como organizador da prática da acupuntura; e Desconhecimento da importância do Processo de Enfermagem na prática da acupuntura. Resultados A aplicação do Processo de Enfermagem na consulta de enfermagem, com foco na prática da acupuntura como cuidado e tratamento, possibilita uma atuação diferenciada, maior compreensão e reconhecimento diagnóstico, escolha mais adequada de técnicas favoráveis à qualidade e o bem-estar dos usuários, além de consolidar a sua utilização como prática especializada. Considerações finais O Processo de Enfermagem possibilita um avanço tecnológico aplicado na consulta de enfermagem, ao se implementar a acupuntura como tratamento e reabilitação, colaborando na evolução e prognóstico no atendimento, e uma estratégia facilitadora para a enfermeira acupunturista junto ao cliente.
