Studies on the Thermal, Mechanical and Chemical Resistance Properties of Natural Resource Derived Polymers

Abstract: Cardanol-based epoxidized resole resins (ERCF) were synthesized by reacting resole type phenolic resin (RCF) and epichlorohydrin in basic medium, at 120 °C. Resole type phenolic resins were synthesized by reacting cardanol (C) and formaldehyde (F) in the presence of sodium hydroxide, as catalyst, at five different temperatures ranging between 60-80 °C with an interval of 5 °C for a maximum period of 6h. These prepared samples were cured using 15% polyamide as curing agent at 120 ± 2 °C for 1h. Mechanical and c… Show more

“…The cross-linked density of coating increases with functional group and high cross-linked network has high thermal stability. [ 39 ] IA based PUA resin have more unsaturation in the backbone as compared to the conventional PUA resin and form more crosslinked structure when passed through the UV lamp. This higher cross linking density of IA based PU coating may be enhancing the thermal resistance properties.…”

“…From the TGA curves it can be concluded that, PUA40 coating has higher thermal resistance properties compared to the PUA, PUA10, PUA20 and PUA30 coatings, with the possible reason being that the percentage of BELO is having an impact on the crosslink density of the cured coating. In addition, the aromatic ring of PBA enhances the thermal resistance properties of the coating [44][45][46]. It can be observed that, higher char yield is obtained with increase in the BELO content.…”

“…All DSC measurements were made on a Shimadzu DSC-60 with a single heating rate of 5 °C/min and a scanning temperature range from 25 to 350 °C. Analysis of the results of these dynamic scans is listed in the Table (7), while the thermograms curves of DSC for the prepared resol resins are shown in Figures (9)(10)(11)(12).…”

“…Also, the characteristic of the phenolic resin is to be determined by its physical properties, thermal and electrical properties (7) . During the last century phenolic resin played an important role as engineering plastics, at the first commercialized synthesis resin, phenol formaldehyde (PF) resin became indispensable because of it is excellent mechanical properties, thermal stability and chemical resistance (8,9) . Formaldehyde usually used as an aqueous solution between 35 and 40 wt% , is essential for the preparation of PF resin (10,11) .…”
