Quality of life on hemodialysis and inflammation: a descriptive analysis

Abstract: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is highly prevalent worldwide. Patients with CKD on hemodialysis are more likely to present behavioral changes and worse quality of life as a result of their routine and complications. They also have higher levels of cytokines. The aim of this study is to assess the relationship between the inflammatory profile and quality of life measured by KDOQL-SF36 in hemodialysis outpatients. Patients older than 21 years of age and on routine hemodialysis for at least 6 months with treatment … Show more

“…Our study was similar to study conducted by Bacci et al in Brazil, recruited 31 regular HD patients, obtained that IL-6 was significantly negative correlated with activity limitation one aspect of QoL. 17 Bossola et al in Rome Italy examined 100 regular HD patients that obtained that fatigue, was significantly correlated with IL-6. 12 This is due to the effect of IL-6 in inflammation which affects to anorexia, depression, fatigue, PEW, and then decrease the aspects of the QoL of regular HD patients.…”

“…Higher scores indicate better HRQoL. Cronbach’s alpha for PCS-12 and MCS-12 in the general Korean population was 0.83 and 0.79 [ 27 ] and in our study was 0.84 and 0.82, respectively.…”

“…In the study of MR Bacci et al (2018), it was found that there was a negative correlation between the increase in pro-inflammatory cytokines IL6, CRP, TNF-, and Ferritin and the KDQOL score SF-36. On the physical health subscale, there is a moderate correlation.…”

“…Based on the Indonesian Renal Registry (IRR) report, in 2018, there were 147.340 kidney failure patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy. 4 In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis, there is an increase in proinflammatory cytokines, including IL6, CRP, TNF-α, and Ferritin (Bacci, 2018).…”
