Comparative study on zinc oxide nanocrystals synthesized by two precipitation methods

Abstract: Zinc oxide nanocrystals were synthesized by two precipitation methods successfully. The nanocrystals prepared via method I (zinc acetate dihydrate precipitation with KOH) were smaller in crystallite size (~20 nm) as compared to method II (zinc nitrate hexahydrate precipitation with N,N-dimethylformamide, ~33 nm). FTIR technique was used to study chemical bonding; SEM and EDS were used to study morphology and chemical compositions. Number of concentric rings corresponding to diffraction peaks was higher in SAED… Show more

“…For the FTIR absorption spectra of zinc oxide nanoparticles prepared by precipitation method, a wide band of about 3426.2 cm -1 was noticed, which normally occurs because of stretching and bonding patterns of (O-H) group. Absorption stretching of ZnO was observed at about 891.05 cm -1 and the band at around 550 cm -1 of the stretching pattern of zinc oxide (Bodke et al, 2018). For the type prepared by the microemulsion method, wideband appeared at about 3458.13cm -1, which occurs because of stretching and bonding patterns of (O-H) group.…”

“…The bands at ∼1681 and 1646 cm −1 can be associated with the bending vibrations of H 2 O molecules [ 42 ]. The absorption bands at ∼1407, ∼930, and ∼879 cm −1 might due to the vibration of the C=O bond in CO 2 adsorbed on the surface of ZnO [ 43 ]. The Zn-O bond could exhibit the adsorption peaks in the range of 650–400 cm −1 [ 44 ].…”

“…The maximum rate of weight loss was 0.2%/min, at which 8% loss of material occurred at around 692 °C. The exothermic peak at 692 °C in the DTA curve is a result of the decomposition of traces of Zn(OH) 2 existing in the sample [45]. These results reveal a good thermal stability of the sample.…”
