Abstract: By approaching the study of theatrical and television adaptations, which were accomplished in the past years, the paper investigates a trend in the Brazilian contemporary drama. This tendency draws upon revamping plays originally written by authors of the Arena Theatre (Teatro de Arena of São Paulo), and recently rewritten towards the center of the ideological criticism, emptying the political debate, and enlarging humor by way of the comedy of manners.
