Titanate Nanotubes Produced From Microwave-Assisted Hydrothermal Synthesis: Characterization, Adsorption and Photocatalytic Activity

Abstract: -A microwave-assisted hydrothermal (MAH) method was employed to synthesize TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs) and these were compared to the conventional hydrothermal (CH) method. The nanotubes were characterized for their crystallinity, morphology, surface area and photocatalytic activity. The TiO2 P25 was used for comparison purposes and efficiently degraded both dyes. However, methylene blue was adsorbed on the nanotube surfaces, which can be attributed to the electrostatic interaction between the cationic methylene blu… Show more

“…The surface charge of the carbon dots at pH = 7 was obtained as −31.7 mV charge. The negative ζ potential is due to dense electron cloud concentrating on the CDs [52]. The value of ζ potential relies upon a short or a long-term stability of CDs particles.…”

“…The perfect sol-gel process will give a small and uniform size. The particle size is inversely proportional to the resulting surface area (Manique, et al, 2017), in the synthesis of nanoparticles the smaller the particles obtained indicate the possibility of a larger surface area. Therefore, the results obtained by XRD refinement are the most effective results on the mass variation ratio of 1.5 grams of carbon precursors and reaction time of 24 hours.…”

“…Titanate nanotubes (TNTs) derived from titanium dioxide have interesting behaviour in surface chemistry in terms of structural changes and morphological differences [1]. Several applications of titanates nanotubes in various industrial products have been reported [2,3]. The importance of tubular form of titanate to be used as a suitable catalytic support material is emphasised further due to its high surface area, thermal stability, and longer life during the course of the reaction [4].…”
