The aim of this study was to describe patterns and potential risk factors for sleep disturbances, including that of sleep apnea, among Thai registered nurses. A descriptive, cross-sectional design was implemented. A sample of 233 registered nurses was recruited from 10 nursing departments from a tertiary hospital. Participants completed a one-time, self-report questionnaire and a 1 week-long sleep diary. Descriptive and logistic regression statistics were used for the analysis. Approximately 76% of nurses slept less than 7 h, 12.3% had difficulty initiating sleep, and 5% had difficulty maintaining sleep. Short sleep duration was prevalent, and night shift work schedules that exceeded 10 episodes/month were perceived as contributing to difficulties with initiating sleep. After excluding males from the analysis, the risk for depression related to short sleep duration becomes statistically significant. Organizational policies for registered nurses' shift work should include effective management of night shift assignments, as well as interventional strategies and policy directions, to promote sleep quality and mental health to ensure nurse well-being and patient safety. Objective: identify the stress level among nursing undergraduates and the associated sociodemographic and academic factors; to compare stress level among college students according to the training phase in the course. Method: cross-sectional study with 286 university students. The instrument of sociodemographic and academic characterization and the stress scale were applied. The overall stress level was assessed by standardized score. In the bivariate analysis, Pearson’s chi-square or Fisher’s exact test was used, and multiple logistic regression analysis was performed using the Poisson model. Statistical significance of 5% was adopted. Results: higher proportion of college students presented medium/high level of global stress. Students from 6th to 10th semesters presented higher levels of stress compared to those from 1st to 5th, in the Realization of practical activities, Professional Communication (p = 0.014), Environment (p = 0.053) and Vocational Training (p = 0.000) domains). In the multivariate analysis, they contributed to the highest level of stress the variables attending the 6th to 10th semesters, female gender, monthly income ≤ one minimum wage and income considered insufficient. Conclusion: women in a more advanced stage of education and with low economic condition present a higher level of stress in their academic education.

As habilidades sociais estão frequentemente correlacionadas a indicadores de saúde mental. O presente estudo teve como objetivo verificar correlações entre estresse, depressão e habilidades sociais de policiais militares. Participaram desta pesquisa de levantamento 129 policiais (93% homens), com idade média de 29,71 anos (Desvio Padrão=4,88) que responderam a um formulário sociodemográfico, Escala de Estresse Percebido – PSS-14, Questionário sobre a Saúde do Paciente-9 – PHQ-9 e Inventário de Habilidades Sociais – IHS-Del-Prette. Os resultados mostraram que as situações mais frequentes de maior estresse no trabalho de policial militar foram, a falta de reconhecimento profissional e as relações interpessoais, que representaram quase a metade (45,8%) das respostas, ficando em segundo plano os incômodos com a atividade-fim. A comparação entre as médias de estresse psicológico e depressão por sexo revelou diferenças estatisticamente significativas (p<0,05), com as mulheres reportando maiores níveis de estresse psicológico e depressão do que os homens, embora não tenham diferido nas habilidades sociais (p=0,486), alcançando na média bom repertório para ambos. A prevalência de déficit de habilidades sociais foi de 27,1% e de 10,9% para depressão, com nível de estresse psicológico (Média=22,67; Desvio Padrão=7,76) abaixo da média de referência. Houve correlação significativa e negativa entre o escore total de habilidades sociais com o estresse (p<0,001) e a depressão (p<0,01), bem como correlação significativa e positiva entre estresse e depressão (p<0,001). Discute-se a necessidade de monitoramento do estresse psicológico e da depressão no exercício da atividade militar, além do fortalecimento de habilidades sociais visando proteger e promover a saúde mental de policiais militares.
