Model-predicted ammonia emission from two broiler houses with different rearing systems

Abstract: Ammonia (NH 3 ) emissions from broiler production can affect human and animal health and may cause acidification and eutrophication of the surrounding environment. This study aimed to estimate ammonia emissions from broiler litter in two systems of forced ventilation, the tunnel ventilation (TV) and the dark house (DH). The experiment was carried out on eight commercial broiler houses, and the age of the birds (day, d), pH and litter temperature were recorded.Broilers were reared on built-up wood shaving litte… Show more

“…Indeed, this time contains almost 67 % (40 of 60 min) of that critical hour labeled as 14h00. The use of a representative and single period can also be observed in other studies aimed at monitoring and evaluating thermal conditions in broiler rearing facilities for preliminary purposes (Curi et al, 2014;Lima et al, 2015). For the whole set of farms, the data were collected at the same height (bird heights, 0.30 m from the ground).…”

“…The annual production is 320,000 fishes. Ammonia emission values were obtained from the application of a predicting model confirmed by measurements in loco [11]. Phosphorous release due to fish metabolism was estimated according to the conversion factor in biomass and the content of phosphorus in the food.…”
