Bananas fruits are widely consumed in the world. In Brazil, the role of agriculture activities in the economy and society is huge, especially for banana farmers. The most popular variety of bananas in Brazil are Prata, Grand Naine, Williams and Nanicão; however, all of them have at least one undesirable trait such as height, yield, vegetative cycle, pests and diseases tolerances, drought or cold resistance and fruit quality. This literature review aims to evaluate agronomic performance and fruit quality of new genotypes of the Prata and Cavendish subgroups, and to make further recommendations on high quality genotypes to Brazilian banana producers. Therefore, a literature review of previously acquired data was conducted and the outcomes indicated genotypes’ adaptability to specific region that assessed vegetative and productive attributes of new cultivars, in comparison to most commercially exploited ones, which have already shown high vulnerability to pests and diseases. These outcomes will then facilitate banana producers the opportunity to select the most stable and adaptable genotypes according to environmental conditions.

Half maximal effective concentration EC 50 is considered the main reference for evaluating the efficacy of the products in any plantation using doses and inhibition percentages from laboratory data. However, EC 50 is not the best representation when other relevant variables and their relationships could be involved. As an agricultural case study, fungicide sensitivity of Pseudocercospora fijiensis, the causal agent of black sigatoka, was evaluated on bananas' plantations in three provinces of Ecuador. In this study, multivariate statistical process control was adjusted to a fungicide efficacy evaluation case considering multiple data tables from different locations and years at the same time. The threshold conveyed by inhibition percentages, related to the EC 50 , along with locations and years allowed the multivariate analyses carried out in the proposal. The multivariate statistical control techniques applied were Multilinear Principal Component Analysis (MPCA) and Dual STATIS-Parallel Coordinates approach (DS-PC). A comparison was developed and showed that both methods discriminate correctly between the normal and anomalous conditions within plantations along years, validating the ability of the novel method DS-PC for exhibiting better signaling of anomalous plantations and performing variable-wise analysis to find out possible causes of this behavior in an easier time-saving graphical framework.

ABSTRACT. The 'Grand Naine' banana cultivar is grown around the world, but it is susceptible to black Sigatoka fungus. The 'FHIA 17' and 'Nanicão IAC 2001' cultivars have the potential to replace susceptible cultivars, but there is little information about their nitrogen and potassium nutritional requirements. This study aimed to identify the best fertilizer recommendation with N and K for banana cultivars 'FHIA 17', 'Nanicão IAC 2001', and 'Grand Naine'. The applied fertilizer levels with N and K 2 O in two production cycles were as follows: NK0, without fertilization; NK1, 175 N and 285 kg K 2 O ha Adubação nitrogenada e potássica nas bananeiras 'Grande Naine', 'FHIA 17' e 'Nanicão IAC 2001' cultivadas no Vale do Ribeira, Estado de São Paulo, Brasil RESUMO. A cultivar Grande Naine é largamente cultivada no mundo, porém é suscetível à Sigatoka-negra. As cultivares FHIA 17 e Nanicão IAC 2001 possuem potencial para substituí-la, porém, pouco se conhece sobre suas necessidades nutricionais de nitrogênio e potássio. Objetivou-se identificar os melhores níveis de recomendação de adubação contendo N e K para as bananeiras FHIA 17, Nanicão IAC 2001 e Grande Naine.
