Survival of Hybrid Laminate Veneers using two different tooth preparation techniques: Randomized Clinical Trial

Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the survival of laminate veneers constructed using a recent polymer-infiltrated ceramic network material following the aesthetic pre-evaluative temporary (APT) technique of tooth preparation in comparison to traditional technique. Six patients received 54 laminate veneers. They were divided into two equal groups (n=27) according to the technique of tooth preparation: group T: traditional technique and group A: aesthetic pre-evaluative temporary technique. “…Peumans et al 13 reported a 10% incidence of secondary caries in lamina restorations at a 10‐year follow‐up study if the margin of the restoration was located on the composite filling instead of the tooth. Smielak et al 5 reported a 1% incidence of secondary caries and 2% endodontic problems at a 9‐year study and Karagözoğlu et al 16 did not detect secondary caries during the 24‐month follow‐up period. Similarly, in this clinical follow‐up study, no secondary caries, tooth fractures, or enamel cracks were observed in any restoration within a 2‐year period.…”

“…In addition, PLVs resist abrasion, can imitate the optical properties of enamel, and retain color stability. It has also been revealed in previous studies that PLVs have a high survival rate, with the most common reported complications being ceramic fracture, cracking, and marginal discoloration 5,12–16 …”

“…In this study, a halogen curing unit was used for luting the resin cement. Although there are studies using a halogen curing unit in the luting of resin cements [ 30 ], LEDs are more commonly used for luting veneers considering up-to-date clinical luting approaches [ 17 , 36 ]. Although low marginal adaptation scores were observed, the low bond strength of resin cements due to the use of halogen may be considered as a factor affecting marginal adaptation and as a reason for this result.…”
