Replantation as Treatment for Extrusive Luxation

Abstract: In the treatment of extrusive luxation cases, it is important that the repositioning of extruded tooth in the socket is done as soon as possible. If this does not occur, periapical clot becomes organized and makes replantation difficult reposition. In this article the patient referred to the Clinics for dental trauma sustaining extrusive luxation of the maxillary right central incisor. The patient reported having suffered a bicycle accident 12 days before, which caused traumatic tooth injuries. The repositioni… Show more

“…The time elapsed between the trauma and the correct diagnosis of lateral luxation can be determinant for the treatment prognosis (7). Delayed repositioning is difficult if a clot is formed at ending of the dental socket (24), which was a concern in this particular case, but the clot did not prevent tooth repositioning. Continued exams are important due the possibility of later complications after the treatment (25).…”

“…Intentional replantation has also been previously described as an efficacious approach, however, it should not be used in cases where any underlying dental diseases or complications were already present. [32][33][34] A follow-up period of three to six months is recommended after applying the orthodontic treatment to adequately make sure no adverse events will develop following the trauma. 3,17 Intrusion luxation type of dental traumatic injuries that is usually associated with impeding of the affected tooth into the underlying alveolar bone and can be complicated by potential fractures within the affected region.…”

“…A luxação extrusiva é caracterizada ainda por danos menores ao periodonto. O dente fica alongado e a mobilidade é acentuada (HAMANAKA et al, 2015) Nos casos de luxação extrusiva, em que o paciente ignorou o tratamento imediato, adiando-o por dias ou semanas, o reposicionamento do dente pode ser dificultado por um coágulo de sangue. Sendo assim propõem-se outras opções de tratamento, como o reimplante intencional e a intrusão ortodôntica.…”
