Objective To determine the prevalence of sexual dysfunction and its associated factors in pregnant women. Methods A descriptive, cross-sectional study including 262 pregnant women aged 18 years or older with gestational age between 10 and 35 weeks. Women with urinary tract infections and conditions of gestational risk were excluded. The Pregnancy Sexual Response Inventory (PSRI) questionnaire was used. We performed a univariate descriptive analysis, and comparisons between the mean values of the sexual function domains were made using the Student t-test. The chi-squared test was used to determine the association between the independent and dependent variables. The prevalence ratios, with their respective 95% confidence intervals, were also estimated, and a multivariate analysis was performed. Results A total of 64.9% of women reported a decrease in the frequency of sexual activity during pregnancy. Slightly more than half of the women (50.8%) were satisfied, and arousal was reported as excellent/good by 30.5% of them. The frequency of sexual difficulties/dysfunctions increased with pregnancy, rising from 5.7% to 58.8%, and pain during sexual intercourse was reported by 45.8% of them. Having higher education degree decreased the chance of being sexually dissatisfied by 50%. The total PSRI score showed a significant decrease from the prepregnancy period (mean score = 89.8, “excellent”) to the pregnancy period (mean score = 59.2, “good”). Conclusion The mean sexual function score during pregnancy was classified as good, although most pregnant women reported at least one type of alteration in the sexual function domains, and the report of dissatisfaction was more frequent in women with lower schooling.

semana gestacional. Observou-se diminuição significativa da frequência mensal do relacionamento sexual do casal, que passou de uma mediana de 12 para 4 vezes por mês (Z =-10,56; p<0,001). A disfunção sexual se mostrou presente em 35,7% das gestantes avaliadas, e a qualidade de vida dessas foi inferior quando comparada àquelas com função sexual sem alteração (Z=-2,87; p=0,004). CONCLUSÃO: Os resultados do presente estudo mostram que a disfunção sexual afetou negativamente a qualidade de vida de mulheres grávidas, devendo ser um aspecto relevante para ser avaliado durante as consultas de pré-natal. AbstractPURPOSE: To investigate the relationship between sexual function and quality of life in pregnant women living in two cities of Northeastern Brazil. METHODS: The sample consisted of 207 pregnant women. The data were collected through a questionnaire containing questions about socio-demographic, gynecological and obstetrical data, body and sexual knowledge. Quality of life was assessed by applying the Ferrans & Powers Quality of Life Index (QLI Ferrans and Power). Sexual function was assessed using the Female Sexual Function Index (IFSF). Data were statistically analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk, Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon tests. RESULTS: The pregnant women studied had a median age of 30 years (quartile 26-33 years) and were approximately at the 26 th gestational week. A significant decrease in the monthly frequency of sexual relations of the couple was observed, with a median of 12 to 4 times per month (Z=-10.56; p<0.001). Sexual dysfunction was detected in 35.7% of the pregnant women studied, whose quality of life was lower when compared to women with unchanged sexual function (Z=-2.9; p=0.004). CONCLUSION: The results of this study show that sexual dysfunction negatively affected the quality of life of pregnant women, and this should be an important aspect for review during prenatal consultations.

Resumo Objetivos: verificar a prevalência de dispareunia no terceiro trimestre gestacional e fatores associados. Métodos: foram avaliadas 202 puérperas. Para a coleta de dados foram utilizados um questionário sociodemográfico; questionário ICIQ-Short Form; questionário de constipação intestinal e, para a avaliação da dispareunia foram utilizadas as questões do questionário FSFI. Os dados foram analisados com os testes qui quadrado, U de Mann Whitney e teste de Wilcoxon, p<0,05. Resultados: a prevalência de dispareunia no 3º trimestre gestacional foi de 48,5% (n=98), enquanto antes da gestação era de 15,3% (n=31). Os fatores associados à dispareunia nesse período foram: constipação no terceiro trimestre da gestação (p=0,05); incontinência urinária no terceiro trimestre da gestação (p<0,001) e dispareunia antes da gestação (p=0,01). A média de idade das mulheres com dispareunia foi significativamente maior que as sem dispareunia (p=0,01). Conclusões: a prevalência da dispareunia é alta no período gestacional e esta associada a alterações das funções do assoalho pélvico, como presença de incontinência urinária e constipação, além da presença prévia de dispareunia.
