Advances in the propagation of Brazilian Cherry tree

Abstract: Abstratct Brazilian Cherry tree is a native fruit tree belonging to the Myrtaceae family, with ample adaptation to the different edaphoclimatic conditions of Brazil, which makes this fruit widely known. However, there are still few commercial orchards, which may soon be reversed, since studies have shown the benefits of the consumption of this fruit for human health, as well as the potentialities for industrial processing. Thus, Brazilian Cherry tree will no longer be a backyard plant and will be grown in com… Show more

“…Considering that the use of seeds is still the most common way to propagate E. uniflora, thus, for the economic development of this crop, knowledge of seed germination is the first step to obtaining seedlings with vigor and quality. 25 The highest root system length was observed in seeds cultivated in MS + 1 μmol GA 3 in the presence of light (12.85 cm). For the other parameter, there was no statistical difference between all the treatments (Table 3).…”

“…The dehydrated seeds were then classified by size, according to Leite et al 24 and those with a large size were selected for the experiments, as they are considered in general to have the best germination rates. 25 Seed surface disinfection-Dehydrated seeds were washed first with tap water and detergent for 10 min. Then in a flow-chamber, the seeds surfaces were disinfected by immersion in 70% ethanol (30 s) followed by immersion in 5% or 2.5% sodium hypochlorite solution (NaOCl) for a duration of 10 or 20 min and rinsed three times with sterile distilled water between treatments.…”

“…Graft death can occur due to several factors, such as incompatibility between tissues, environmental conditions during and after grafting, graft polarity, tissue health, grafting skills, and post-grafting techniques (Fachinello et al, 2005). The difficulty in tissue healing after the grafting of species belonging to the Myrtaceae family has been attributed to the presence of phenolic compounds and to the high level of lignification of the grafts and rootstocks (Fachinello et al, 2005;Silva et al, 2019).…”

“…Considerando-se que a pitangueira é propagada principalmente por sementes e estas apresentam recalcitrância, tornando-as sensíveis à perda de água (Antunes et al, 2012), o que inviabiliza a sua germinação. Espécies do gênero Eugenia, apresentam teores de umidade entre 40 e 70% no momento da dispersão (Silva et al, 2019).…”
