“…Finally, this module also measured feelings of loneliness through the Brazilian Scale of Solitude, cross-culturally adapted and validated for use in Brazil (16) . Adopting the cutoff points proposed by Barroso, Andrade & Oliveira (17) , the interval from 0 to 22 points of the score was considered as minimal loneliness; as mild, between 23 and 35 points; as moderate, between 36 and 47; as intense, when it reached between 48 and 60 points. This manuscript uses the "minimal/mild" and "moderate/intense".…”

“…Total scores range from 0 to 60; higher scores indicate higher levels of loneliness. We used the total UCLA-BR score cut-offs proposed by Barroso, Andrade, and Oliveira (2016): < 23 (minimal loneliness), 23 to 35 (mild loneliness), 36 to 47 (moderate loneliness), and 48 to 60 (intense loneliness). In this study, the internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) of the UCLA-BR was of 0.94, indicating an excellent internal consistency.…”

“…Given the possible impacts of loneliness and isolation on the emergence and/or exacerbation of physical and emotional conditions in the elderly, the UCLA scale was selected. High scores indicate a risk of greater vulnerability and social exclusion, with those above 23 points denoting moderate loneliness, and higher than 48 points, intense loneliness, which compromises quality of life and functional capacity [19,20].…”
