Transdermal patches of lidocaine/aspirin ionic liquid drug-loaded gelatin/polyvinyl alcohol composite film prepared by freeze-thawed procedure

Abstract: The objectives of this study are to prepare a 5 wt% lidocaine/aspirin ionic liquid drug-loaded gelatin/polyvinyl alcohol composite fi lm using a freeze-thaw procedure and to evaluate their physicochemical characteristics, in vitro drug release, and stability.Lidocaine/aspirin ionic liquid drugs can be prepared by an ion-pair reaction between the hydrochloride salts of lidocaine and the sodium salts of aspirin, which showed a signifi cant change in their thermal properties when compared to those pure drugs. The … Show more

“…The biological activity of the scaffolds is related to the crystal structure of the organic components. Based on XRD analysis, the results verified that the ordered arrangement of the original molecular chains and oxygen functional groups of PVA and aspirin changed, so their crystalline state disappeared in hydrogel scaffolds ( Zhang et al, 2019 ; Maneewattanapinyo et al, 2020 ). The crystalline structure of nano-hydroxyapatite was not affected, which in favour to improve the mechanical strength of the hydrogel scaffold.…”

“…The thermal characterization of solvent-cast polymeric lms containing ionic liquid lidocaine/aspirin for transdermal patches is shown in Figure 2; the thermal characterization of lidocaine, aspirin, and ionic liquid lidocaine/aspirin are known from previous studies (25,26). Brie y, from Figure 2A, the melting point of lidocaine, aspirin, and ionic liquid lidocaine/aspirin were 77.75°C, 141°C, and 93.50°C, respectively.…”

“…The preparation and characterization of ionic liquid drug of combined lidocaine and aspirin were reported previously by our research group (25,26). In the present research, the prepared ionic liquid lidocaine/aspirin was loaded into the solvent-cast polymeric lm for transdermal patches.…”

“…Maneewattapinyio et al produced a transdermal patch composed of lidocaine-aspirin IL, poly(vinyl alcohol), and gelatin, using a freeze-thawed procedure, which can control the release of the active molecules. 89 Nevertheless, it should be kept at a low temperature (4 °C) to protect it and avoid reducing the amount of drug released.…”
