Application of soil amendments and their effect in the growth of heliconia

Abstract: The Heliconias have a great potential as a cut flower and for this reason an adequate management of the crop is important. The objective of this research was the application of soil amendments (Biol and superabsorbent polymers - SAP) and the analysis on their effect in the growth of Heliconia psittacorum cv. Tropica. An experiment was established using a completely randomized design with four treatments and five repetitions: SAP (1 g plant-1), biol (20 mL plant-1) + SAP (1 g plant-1), biol (20 mL plant-1) and … Show more

“…Golden Torch. The idea that nutrient contents are sometimes determined by biotic and abiotic factors is not excluded; these factors involve temperature, relative humidity, luminosity, genotype, concentration of nutrients in the soil, cultivation and management of the crop (Jarvan and Poldma, 2004).…”

“…During this research, low doses of fertilization were applied based on other researches that state the possibility of the nutrient cycle could reduce the entry of fertilizer, reducing production costs and the environmental risks associated with its unnecessary application (Taniguchi et al, 2016). The application of chemical fertilizer can be considered as a complement to the application of organic fertilizers: in this way satisfy the nutritional requirements of the crop minimizing production costs and reducing the environmental impact (Linares-Gabriel et al, 2017;Linares-Gabriel et al, 2018).…”

“…The assessment of hydrogels use in planting is traditionally conducted by monitoring the effect on plant height, mass (leaves and roots) and the soil's retention capacity (Mews et al, 2015;Mudhaganyi et al, 2016;Linares-Gabriel et al, 2018;Felippe et al, 2021). However, little has been studied about the influence on the plants biomolecular development using modern techniques such as Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR-UATR), which arises from evaluating atomic vibrations of the molecules that interact with infrared radiation (10 -6 to 10 -3 m) that depends on molecular structure (Pavia et al, 2010).…”

“…These changes are mostly more demanding in agricultural activities. Mainly those related to agronomic problems that are generally in the production stage and that have a strong impact on the quality of the commercial stem (Rodrigues et al, 2005;Beckmann-Cavalcante et al, 2011;Linares-Gabriel et al, 2018), for example organic, mineral and organomineral fertilization. Heliconias require shade percentages since they are C 3 plants (Peña-Salamanca et al, 2013), so the shading conditions are indispensable (Souza et al, 2016).…”
