A tireoidectomia é uma cirurgia comum para tratar diversas condições da glândula tireoide, incluindo câncer, bócio e hipertireoidismo. A anestesia geral é frequentemente utilizada para garantir que o procedimento seja realizado de forma segura e eficaz. Este estudo examina a importância do monitoramento e do manejo intraoperatório durante a tireoidectomia, destacando as melhores práticas e as tecnologias mais avançadas para minimizar complicações e otimizar os resultados cirúrgicos. Objetivo: : Investigar e aprimorar as práticas anestésicas para aumentar a segurança e a eficácia das tireoidectomias. Metodologia: Foram utilizadas as bases de dados Cochrane, Scielo e Pubmed, buscando artigos publicados entre os anos de 2019 e 2021, nos idiomas Português ou Inglês. Considerações Finais: A anestesia geral durante tireoidectomias, combinada com monitoramento e manejo intraoperatório adequados, é crucial para garantir a segurança e o sucesso da cirurgia. Dessa forma, técnicas avançadas de monitoramento e uma gestão cuidadosa da via aérea são essenciais para minimizar riscos e complicações. Assim, a colaboração interdisciplinar e a formação contínua dos profissionais envolvidos são fundamentais para aprimorar as práticas anestésicas e, assim, melhorar os resultados clínicos e o bem-estar dos pacientes.

Total thyroidectomy is very common in endocrine surgery and the haemostasis can be obtained in different ways across surgery; recently, some devices have been developed to support this surgical phase. In this paper, a health technology assessment is conducted through the define, measure, analyse, improve, and control cycle of the Six Sigma methodology to compare traditional total thyroidectomy with the surgical operation performed through a new device in an overall population of 104 patients. Length of hospital stay, drain output, and time for surgery were considered the critical to qualities in order to compare the surgical approaches which can be considered equal regarding the organizational, ethical, and security impact. Statistical tests (Kolmogorov–Smirnov, t test, ANOVA, Mann–Whitney, and Kruskal–Wallis tests) and visual management diagrams were employed to compare the approaches, but no statistically significant difference was found between them. Considering these results, this study shows that the introduction of the device to perform total thyroidectomy does not guarantee appreciable clinical advantages. A cost analysis to quantify the economic impact of the device into the practice could be a future development. Healthy policy leaders and clinicians who are requested to make decisions regarding the supply of biomedical technologies could benefit from this research.

Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) is a common endocrine malignancy with highly aggressive features. In this study, next-generation sequencing technology was used to identify aberrant expression of sialyltransferase (ST) family members in FTC. Aberrant high expression of alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase 2 (ST6GAL2) was demonstrated to promote tumorigenesis of FTC in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, ST6GAL2 promoted tumorigenesis by inactivating the Hippo signaling pathway. Resveratrol is a native compound extracted from Vitis species, and many studies have confirmed its protective cardiovascular and antineoplastic effects. Here we found that resveratrol can inhibit the tumorigenesis of FTC by suppressing the expression of ST6GAL2, further activating the Hippo pathway. In summary, this study revealed the role of the ST6GAL2-Hippo signaling pathway in FTC tumorigenesis and indicated that resveratrol, a commonly found antineoplastic compound, could inhibit tumorigenesis of FTC by regulating the abovementioned pathways.Recently, sialyltransferase (ST) families have been reported to be critical cancer-regulating factors. 10 Sialylation is a key process in eukaryotic cells that has been shown to act in cell recognition, cell adhesion, receptor activation, and protein stability. 11 Therefore, STs contribute greatly to tumor development by acting as catalysts of sialylation. STs are categorized into four families: ST3GAL, ST6GAL, ST6GALNAC, and ST8SIA. 12 As reported, ST6GAL1 and ST3GAL6 regulate tumorigenesis of human colorectal carcinoma, 13,14 ST6GALNAC2 regulates breast cancer invasion, 15 and ST8SIA2 regulates cell invasion of non-small cell lung cancer. 16 Moreover, similar findings were reported in our previous study, which showed that alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase 2 (ST6GAL2) is highly expressed in FTC and regulated by the long noncoding RNA-HLA complex P5 (HCP5). 17 However, the downstream regulatory mechanisms of ST6GAL2 in FTC are not clear.
