Antibacterial activity of 3,3′,4′-Trihydroxyflavone from Justicia wynaadensis against diabetic wound and urinary tract infection

Abstract: The present investigation was designed to study the effect of an active compound isolated from Justicia wynaadensis against multi drug resistant organisms (MDRO's) associated with diabetic patients. The drug resistant pathogens implicated in wound and urinary tract infection of diabetic patients were isolated and identified by molecular sequencing. Solvent–solvent fractionation of crude methanol extract produced hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol–water fraction, among which chloroform fraction was … Show more

“…It is known as to treat blood stagnation syndrome, ischemia, swelling, necrosis, rheumatic pain, and epigastric pain in Korea and China (Lee et al, ). In previous studies, trihydroxyflavone obtained from crude extract has been reported to have a pharmacological effect of improving diabetic wound, urinary tract infections, antibiotic, antibiotic, and oxidative stress (Dzotam et al, ; Han, Zhu, Chen, Liu, & Dang, ; Dsouza & Nanjaiah, ). However, the effect of THF isolated from D. odorifera on osteoclast differentiation inhibition and osteoblast was not reported.…”

“…The study elucidated the mechanism of action, inhibition of biofilm formation, pathogenesis, and efflux activity of one of its pure glycyrrhizic acid components [ 167 ]. The findings were validated using molecular docking analysis using ExoS segmentation, which confirmed the potential of the herb G. glabra [ 153 ]. Isolated G. glabra glycosides altered membrane permeability and inhibited efflux activity and biofilm formation by P. aeruginosa [ 166 ].…”

“…Methanolic fraction of the extract from Justicia wynaadensis contains 3,3,4-trihydroxyflavone that exhibits antimicrobial activity against multiresistant and opportunistic organisms. Flavones can effectively kill bacteria present in diabetic wounds such as Enterococcus faecalis , Streptococcus aureus , Klebsiella pneumoniae , Enterobacter aerogenes , Escherichia coli , and Pseudomonas aeruginosa [ 153 ]. The methanolic extract of J. wynaadensis also showed antibacterial activity against K. pneumoniae (Ponnamma SU2015).…”

“…It is assumed that it gives resistance to people from fever and cold and also acts as a deworming agent. It is said that a person suffering from urinary tract infection is advised to consume one glass Justicia plant, which helps, in subsiding the infections (Bhagya et al, 2013;Dsouza and Nanjaiah, 2018).…”
