Psychopathology and psychosocial adjustment in patients with HIV-associated lipodystrophy

Abstract: The finding that LD was not a predictor of greater psychopathology or worse psychosocial adjustment in HIV-1 infected patients, despite the high scores found, suggests that factors not taken into account in this study, such as LD severity and self-perception should have been included in the analysis. Further studies including a greater number of variables and a larger sample size will advance our understanding of this complex condition.

“…In addition, mean of anxiety was 47.14 point in the low-risk group and mean of anxiety was 50.90 point in the moderate/high-risk group.

“…: cosmetic result, antiretroviral tolerance, global wellbeing, social isolation) and may influence the results. Barata et al assessed a psychological questionnaire in outpatients with and without LD and found no difference in mental health disorders between the two groups [ 25 ]. Rajagopalan et al found similar results regarding quality of life; however, a subgroup analysis showed that patients with LD, particularly homosexual men and patients undergoing psychiatric treatment, suffered from a low QoL [ 22 ].…”
