1-Minute Integrated Rain Rate Statistics Estimated From Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Data

Abstract: This letter presents a new model for the prediction\ud of the 1-min integrated complementary cumulative distribution\ud function (CCDF) of the rain rate, P(R)1, valid for tropical and\ud equatorial regions (specifically, latitudes ranging from 35°S to\ud 35°N). The proposed model inherits its analytical formulation\ud from the method currently recommended by the International\ud Telecommunication Union—Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R)\ud for global P(R)1 prediction (Annex 1 of recommendation\ud P.837-6), but … Show more

“…In addition due to ITU-R recommendation the factor of elevation angles should be high to offer clear line of sight signal paths and low propagation delay [6]. The combinations of the gains of both communication system satellite and terrestrial and avoid all the drawbcks of both of them that make the high altitude platforms (HAPs) is considerable as a unique alternative in wireless communication [11,13]. Due to all benefits that offered by a new communication/telecommunication technology (HAPs) as a promising system that an effective balance to the current communication system.…”

“…For the prediction of rain attenuation, accurate knowledge of 1-min integrated CCDF of rain rate is required as recommended by Series (2015). But difficulty to obtain such short interval rain rate have forced researcher worldwide to find prediction method that shall be able to predict local rain rate characteristics (Aris et al 2013). Paper proposed a prediction model based on the rainfall data collected by Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) which has developed and operated a digital system for collecting and storing rainfall data at 1-min interval since 2004.…”
