1,8‐Naphthyridine Derivatives: A Review of Multiple Biological Activities

Abstract: The 1,8-naphthyridine group of compounds have gained special attention of researchers on account of their demonstrating a variety of interesting biological activities. A wide range of biological properties establishes them as potent scaffolds in therapeutic and medicinal research. The broad spectrum of activities primarily includes antimicrobial, antiviral, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic activities. 1,8-Naphthyridine derivatives have also exhibited potential applications in neurological disorders… Show more

“…Certain 1,8-naphthyridine derivatives are considered good DNA intercalators. They bind with double stranded DNA (ds-DNA) by intercalating between adjacent base pairs, thus changing the DNA conformation and inhibit DNA duplication or transcription leading to suppression of cancer cell growth [15][16][17]. Due to their wide range of biological effects, 1,8-naphthyridine derivatives have been considered promising antitumor agents [18][19][20].…”

“…Despite the tremendous efforts made in discovering and developing innovative anticancer drugs, it still holds the record for being one of the most common leading causes of death worldwide. 1,8-Naphthyridine derivatives' anticancer properties earned exceptional recognition by researchers, a number of their derivatives were explored as antitumor agents [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. The highly significant and best explored derivative of 1,8-naphthyridine as anticancer is voreloxin, SNS-595(+)-1,4-dihydro-7-(trans-3-methoxy-4 methylamino-1-pyrrolidinyl)-4oxo-1-(2-thiazolyl)-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid Fig.…”
