[1,6-Bis(2-pyridylmethyl)-2,5-diazahexane-κ4N]chlorocopper(II) perchlorate

Abstract: The title mononuclear copper(II) compound, [CuCl(C(16)H(22)N(4))]ClO(4), shows a slightly tetrahedrally distorted square-pyramidal coordination with the chlorine ligand at the apical position. The directions of the two N-Me bond axes are syn to the Cu-Cl bond.

“…Each copper(II) ion in the complex is ®ve-coordinated by one imine N atom from a Schiff base ligand, two terminal Cl À ions and two bridging phenolate O atoms; the CuÁ Á ÁCu separation is 3.141 (2) A Ê . The mean CuÐCl bond length [2.398 (2) A Ê ; Table 1] is a little shorter than the corresponding bond distance [2.421 (2) A Ê ] observed in a similar copper(II) complex (Kani et al, 2000). The fact that the Cu1ÐO1 distances [2.013 (3) A Ê ] is longer than the Cu1ÐO1(Ðx, 1 Ð y, Ðz) distance [1.974 (3) A Ê ] indicates that the trans in¯uence of the Cl Ð ion is greater than that of the Schiff base imine N atom.…”

“…The conformation of the L 1 ligand is deformed by comparison with that found in the closely related Cu II cationic complex including chloride in place of the perchlorate ligand. [41] For instance, the dihedral angle between the pyridine rings is 59.85 (12) Simply by inserting a methylene group in the ligand, a different coordination geometry is stabilized in the solid state: in 2, the Cu II metal ion lies on a glide plane and is six coordinated by four N atoms of the main L 2 ligand and two trans-arranged ClO 4 -ions ( Figure 11). The resulting molecular complex has an octahedral coordination geometry with the main tetragonal distortion from an ideal geometry produced by a strong Jahn-Teller (JT) effect.…”

“…Related copper(II) complexes with aminopyridine ligands have also been synthesized and characterized (Singh et al, 2017;Kani et al, 2000;Liebov et al, 2011). Potential applications of these complexes include fluorescent sensing of NO.…”

“…Like some other Cu II aminopyridine complexes (Singh et al, 2017;Kani et al, 2000;Liebov et al, 2011), the cationic complex consists of a five-coordinate Cu ion in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry.…”
