1.5-μm Directly modulated transmission over 66 km of SSMF with an integrated hybrid III-V/SOI DFB laser

Abstract: Peucheret, C. (2017). 1.5-m Directly modulated transmission over 66 km of SSMF with an integrated hybrid III-V/SOI DFB laser. In Proceedings of the 2017 IEEE 14th International Conference on Abstract: A hybrid III-V/SOI directly modulated DFB laser operating at 1.5 μm is fabricated, showing a side mode suppression ratio above 50 dB and a 3-dB bandwidth of 12 GHz. Error-free transmission (BER<10 -9 ) at 10 Gb/s over 66-km SSMF is demonstrated without dispersion compensation and FEC. IntroductionThe significan… Show more

“…At that point, large signal eye diagrams, modulation transmission measurements will be conducted to fully evaluate the device characteristics. [ 43,44 ] As for the laser linewidth, note that the evanescent QD DFBs here do not include any external cavity designs or facet coatings. Therefore, compared to the heterogeneous QW‐based DFB, the reduction in linewidth here is mainly contributed from the QD aspect.…”
