Abstract: Like continuous-wave CO2 laser systems, the newer, high-energy, short-pulse CO2 laser may be effective in vaporizing some of the surface lymphatic vessels, which may in turn seal some of the communicating channels to the deeper cisterns, yielding functionally and cosmetically acceptable results for this difficult disorder. However, given the nature of the lesion, the potential for recurrence exists no matter what modality is chosen.

“…Despite the publication of guidelines, many hospitals have been slow to adjust children's fasts (Engelhardt 2001;Ferrari 1999;Haas 1998). In a survey many British and Irish paediatric anaesthetists* allowed children to drink clear fluids up to two hours preoperatively (guidelines recommendation) but as many as 25% did not.…”

“…Injection sclerotherapy aims to obliterate the lymphatic channels [16] . CO 2 laser treatments can provide palliative relief by vaporizing superficial vesicles and sealing the communicating channels to the deeper cisterns [17] . These alternative treatments are associated with high recurrence rates and the scarred tissues make future surgery more difficult.…”

“…Vaporization with a CO 2 laser is a recent recommendation for lymphangioma circumscriptum of the vulva and is suggested to yield acceptable cosmetic results [9]. Laser treatment and surgery were the options recommended to our patients, who rejected them both on the grounds that they had no cosmetic concerns.…”
