This study was carried out to fortify the antimicrobial activity of yogurt by adding garlic juice to it. A raw garlic bulb was grated and heated with Glycyrrhiza uralensis to improve its antimicrobial activity and palatability. Yogurt was made with 0, 4, 8, and 12% garlic juice, and was evaluated in terms of its lactic starter growth, physico-chemical characteristics, growth inhibitory activity against Staphylococcus aureus KCCM 40510, and sensory characteristics. The garlic juice significantly increased the growth of the yogurt starter (p<0.05), which was highest with the addition of 4% garlic juice. Significant (p<0.05) inhibition of S. aureus KCCM 40510 occurred with the addition of 12% garlic juice. The preference was lowered with the addition of garlic juice, but the addition of 4% garlic juice showed no significant difference (p>0.05). To increase the antimicrobial activity of yogurt with the addition of garlic juice, further studies on the increase in the palatability of garlic juice are necessary.
Interrill erosion by the rainfall is divided into a detachment of soil particles by raindrop splash when raindrops having kinetic energy strike on the surface soil and a sediment transport by sheet flow of surface runoff. Rainfall kinetic energy is widely used as an indicator expressing the potential ability to separate the soil particles from soil mass. In this study, the soil erosion experiments of rainfall simulation were operated to evaluate the effects of rainfall kinetic energy on interrill erosion as using the strip cover to control raindrop impact. The kinetic energy from rainfall simulator was 0.58 times to that of natural rainfall. Surface runoff and subsurface runoff increased and decreased respectively with increase of rainfall intensity. Surface runoff discharge from plots of non-cover was 1.82 times more than that from plots with cover. The rainfall kinetic energy influenced on the starting time of surface and subsurface runoff. Soil erosion quantity greatly varied according to existence of the surface cover that can intercept rainfall energy. Sediment yields by the interaction between raindrop splash and sheet flow increased 3.6∼5.9 times and the increase rates of those decreased with rainfall intensity. As a results from analysis of relationship between stream power and sediment yields, rainfall kinetic energy increased the transport capacity according to increase of surface runoff as well as the detachment of soil particles by raindrop splash.Ke ywor ds : rainfall kinetic energy, sheet flow, interrill erosion, rainfall simulation, strip cover
In the recent cloud storage environment, the amount of SSD (Solid-State Drive) replacing with the traditional hard disk drive is increasing. Management of SSD for its space efficiency has become important since SSD provides fast IO performance due to no mechanical movement whereas it has wearable characteristics and does not provide in place update. In order to manage space efficiency of SSD, data de-duplication technique is frequently used. However, this technique occurs much overhead because it consists of data chunking, hasing and hash matching operations. In this paper, we propose new data de-duplication method using PRAM cache. The proposed method uses hierarchical hash tables and LRU(Least Recently Used) for data replacement in PRAM. First hash table in DRAM is used to store hash values of data cached in the PRAM and second hash table in PRAM is used to store hash values of data in SSD storage. The method also enhance data reliability against power failure by maintaining backup of first hash table into PRAM. Experimental results show that average writing frequency and operation time of the proposed method are 44.2% and 38.8% less than those of existing data de-depulication method, respectively, when three workloads are used.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
