This study was carried out to establish the optimum organic fertilization and microbial compost on wheat cultivation in order to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and improve the quality of wheat. The tests resulted in a yield of organic fertilization of 2~6% lower than the yield of standard 4.16 Ton/ha (a yield more than that of microbial compost). The recession was not statistically significant. The trial which involved organic fertilizer that had a yield of 800 kg/ha and microbial compost which had a yield of 2,000 kg/ha resulted in 96% yield of standard trial. The quality of flour in the manure was 50% less during the trial and was not making a good result. In protein content and SDS-sedimentation volume, standard trial had the highest yield in test trial (standard > miccompost > organic fertilization). However, Ash content was not statistically significant.
This experiment was carried out to determine the effect of mechanization on lavor-saving in sweetpotato cultivation. The field experiment was conducted from 2005 to 2006 in Mokpo Experiment Station of the National Institute of Crop Science. In order to determine the efficiency of mechanical harvesting, different harvesting methods were compared. Mechanical harvesting method was done as follows: cutting of vines by machine, removal of plastic film mulching, and harvesting by two-row and one-row harvesting system. The result showed harvesting labor was decreased by 66.6% in two-row harvesting. The ratio of damaged sweetpotato by mechanical harvesting decreased by 49.4% in two-row and 38.4% in one-row harvesting compared to conventional method. The total labor cost was saved by 48.2%-70.4% using mechanical method. In addition, the total income also increased by ca. 62.9%-81.2%. Thus, it was concluded that mechanical harvesting is more efficient and economical method than conventional one.
The experiment was conducted to elucidate the growth characteristics of sorghum in the different planting methods: direct sowing and transplanting (20 days after sowing, DAS). Weed weight was taken from three randomly chosen-2 plots 60 DAS (DAT). One time (20, 30 days after transplanting, DAT) and two times (10/20, 10/30, 20/30, 20/40 DAS) application of weeder machine (FRT 80E) were conducted for direct sowing and transplanting, respectively. In transplanting, the weed control efficacy of weeder machine at 90 DAT was about 67% (DAT 20), 57% (DAT 30) at one time and 87% at two times. The most effective application number was two times (20/40 DAT) followed by one time (20 DAT). However, when reviewing yield and economy, the frequency and times of using weeder machine were preferably one time and 20 DAT. Results with mechanical weed control have been particularly good in transplanted row crops such as sorghum. In direct sowing, the weed control efficacy of weeder machine 60 DAS was about 87% (10/20 DAS), 88% (10/30 DAS) and 82% (20/30 DAS) at two times, respectively. When reviewing yield and economy, the times and frequency of weeder machine were preferably two times, 10 and 30 DAS.
