In this paper, a mathematical model for a ship manoeuvring with low forward speed in shallow water was suggested. Based on the cross flow model with low forward speed in deep sea, hull, propeller and rudder models were modified to consider the shallow water effects. Static drift and PMM tests were performed to obtain the cross flow drag coefficients and hydrodynamic coefficients. To validate suggested mathematical model, numerical simulation results were compared with those of sea-trials. Through comparisons, it was concluded that suggested mathematical model could give proper estimation on turning test results.
Recently seaweed polysaccharides have been extensively studied for alternative energy application. Because their producing cost is high and efficiency low, their industrial applications have been limited. The main component of cell wall of red algae represented by Gelidiales and Gracilariales is agar. Red-algae agar or galactan, consisting of D-galactose and 3, 6-anhydro-L-galactose, is suitable for bio-product application if hydrolyzed to monomer unit. For the hydrolysis of algae, chemical or enzymatic treatment can be used. A chemical process using a strong acid is simple and efficient, but it generates together with target sugar and toxic compounds. In an enzymatic hydrolysis process, target sugar without toxic compounds generation. The objective of this review is to summary the recent data of saccharification by chemical and enzymatic means from red seaweed for especially focused on automobile industry.
Recently, the supplying of basic materials for construction of building as sand is big issues due to lack of shoreside supply. For solving this problem, many suppliers attempt to gather aggregate from the sea bottom of the EEZ & west coastal area of Korea. In this regard, the'Jangantoe'which exists in the westside of the Daesan port is worth noticing as good seasand supplying areas. The Chungnam Aggregate Association have plan to gather of seasand from 'Gaduckdo 5 regions & Igok 3 regions'which lies westside about 6 miles off from the Jangantoe areas. This designated area also locates upper parts of the Gadaeam TSS(Traffic Separation Scheme) which is very useful passing routes for the sailing vessels of Inchon & Daesan ports. In this study, the evaluation of the safety for passing vessels in the vicinity of the seasand gathering area was performed by various methods of radar observations & GICOMS AIS data for marine traffics and vessel traffic-flow simulation of the'Marine Traffic Safety Diagnostic Scheme'. By the results of this evaluation, I suggested comprehensive countermeasures for the safety of passing vessels in the near the seasand gathering area.
Phosphoric acid used for the production of phosphate fertilizers is synthesized by the reaction of phosphate rock and sulfuric acid. As the reaction is exothermic, yield of phosphoric acid is poor at elevated temperature. Therefore, enhancement in its yield requires the process temperature be maintained by releasing the vapor (80°C) containing HF and SiF4 through a vacuum cooler. However, these valuable resources; F and Si, which can be utilized for the manufacture of refrigerant and polysilicon, respectively, are being wasted in the treatment process. We performed lab-scale experiments to estimate the amount of recoverable H2SiF6, a by-product of phosphoric acid manufacturing process. The experimental results showed a decrease of fluorine concentration by 0.12wt% in the liquid phase. Preliminary estimation showed a possible recovery of 5,509 ton/yr of fluorine considering the scale of the fertilizer manufacturing plant. Furthermore, field-scale experiment showed that H2SiF6 could be enriched in liquid phase from 0.35wt% to 7.33wt% and the vapor flow-rate from vacuum cooler was estimated at 51,000 m 3 /hr. Anew, the efficiency of fluorine recovery in the pilot-scale experiment was found to be 76.74% and the production of H2SiF6 was estimated at 5,340 ton/yr.
