EŠect of microstructure on fatigue strength in an aged Al 4Ge alloy Keiyu NAKAGAWA , Teruto KANADANI , Goroh ITHO Norio HOSOKAWAand Tadashi TANIMOTO EŠects of aging at 473 K on the relationship between microstructure and fatigue strength for an Al 4Ge alloy has been investigated. The fatigue strength is lowered with increasing aging time. The fatigue life is deduced to be greatly aŠected by the initiation of the crack since the present fatigue test condition is in a high-cycle range. The crack is likely to initiate at the coarse precipitate located at the intersection between the free surface and grain boundary. This mechanism can explain the reduction in fatigue strength with increasing aging time, that is, with the increase in the size of the coarse precipitate.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
