*4We encountered a case of gastric antral vascular ectasia(GAVE) for whom trans-arterial embolization(TAE) was effective. A 61-year-old man with liver cirrhosis admitted to our hospital because of irreversible renal dysfunction. After the initiation of hemodialysis therapy, progressive anemia with tarry stool occurred. Gastrointestinal fiberscopic examination demonstrated bleeding from the gastric antrum due to GAVE. Four consecutive sessions of argon plasma coagulation(APC)were performed only to fail to control progressive anemia due to GAVE. Then, selective TAE of the left and right gastric arteries using micro-coils was performed successfully. Since TAE, there has not been any recurrence of GAVE for 40 months following discharge from the hospital.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
