The objectlve 〔 } f this study is to identif シgeneral conditions of urban design that cQuld stimulate strolling actMties or citizens in a downtown shopping district , by observing relationships between people ' s behavior while strollillg around downtown sh 〔 } pping districts , and visual stimuli in each section of the streets. This paper discusses that the characteristic of visual stimuli to encourage cltizens to enter the a 闘 eys or to return to the main sIreet, through observing people ' s behaviQr by a linked QTVR simulator . The observation was carried out fbr l9 ・ newcomer to the site as woll as l9 − resident who were acquainted with the sitc. The result suggests that visual richness a旺d a sense of continuily Qf the shops will encourage the stro匪 且 ing activities.
