Russian phlebology, as a field of surgery, has passed a long historical path of formation. A.A. Troyanov and his followers laid the foundation for the scientific study of venous pathology. Subsequent works in this area of prominent Russian surgeons made it possible to form those fundamental ideas that are currently the basis of medical tactics. The article presented historical portraits of surgeons of the St. Petersburg phlebology school, who had made a huge contribution to the development of phlebology and the study of surgical pathology of veins.The authors declare no conflict of interest.The authors confirm that they respect the rights of the people participated in the study, including obtaining informed consent when it is necessary, and the rules of treatment of animals when they are used in the study.
