A study is made of binary alloys, in which atoms of one of the components, and unlike atoms, interact ferromagnetically whereas the interaction between atoms of the other component is antiferromagnetic. Under these conditions a magnetic structure arises which involves a noncollinear alignement of the atomic magnetic moments. Expressions are given for calculating the average magnetic moment per atom and its dependence upon the concentration and the state of ordering. The results are compared with experimental data for NiMn, NiFe, and PdFe alloys.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
