The results of the developed methodology "Assessment of negative mental reactions and conditions in military personnel" are presented. The methodology consists of 16 statements, the results of which determine the presence of negative psychological symptoms in military personnel associated with participation in combat operations, and is a convenient tool for assessing the dynamics of the state in the conditions of short-term psychological rehabilitation programs. In contrast to the existing methods of diagnosing negative mental reactions and personality states that arose after participation in hostilities, the developed psychodiagnostic toolkit is able to take into account the physical and mental fatigue of the interviewees, the deterioration of their attention and other cognitive dysfunctions associated with experiencing a stressful experience; able to visually demonstrate changes in mental state that occurred during the psychological rehabilitation program. In addition to the information useful for the psychologist, during individual counseling, the visual form has a therapeutic effect for the serviceman himself, who is convinced of the effectiveness and usefulness of these measures; it is convenient for summarizing data and receiving feedback from the psychologist about the effectiveness of introducing new measures into psychological recovery programs; useful for obtaining information about the effectiveness of individual counseling work, providing the psychologist with a reflection on his professional activity. With the existing workload on psychologists, there is a need for supervision and their rotation in institutions that carry out psychological rehabilitation. The developed method was tested on a sample of more than 1,300 servicemen who took part in the psychological rehabilitation program.
Soldiers at war are required to make the most important, intense, and difficult moral decisions of their lives. However, not every serviceman is able to carry out these decisions. As a result, many combatants suffer from lasting shame, anger, alienation, loss of religious beliefs, and other effects that are now called moral trauma. Available scientific approaches to understanding moral trauma and restoring the mental health of servicemen who were participants in morally traumatic events are summarized. An algorithm for conducting a structured interview has been developed, which involves the following stages: notation and reconstruction of the event, description of experiences, experiences and thoughts; determination of remote consequences of the event and prospects for the development of changes in himself, which the serviceman himself sees; determination of resources; searching for a basis for self-healing. At various stages of recovery of mental health, a serviceman not only finds the meaning of the suffering experienced, but also realizes how to use his own experience based on his psychological knowledge in the future, learns techniques (breathing, neurolinguistic programming, etc.) to overcome the negative symptoms of moral trauma and post-traumatic stress stress disorder. They achieve an understanding of the existing connection between the event and the destruction itself, form an idea of the normality of one's own imperfection and the need to forgive oneself or atone for guilt in a constructive way. It was determined that the proposed structured interview essentially serves as a step-by-step instruction for psychologists when conducting measures to restore and preserve the mental health of military personnel participating in hostilities.
