Spring grassland fires are common in boreal areas as a consequence of slash and burn agriculture used to remove dry grass to increase soil nutrient properties and crop production. However, few works have investigated fire impacts on these grassland ecosystems, especially in the immediate period after the fire. The objective of this work was to study the short-term impacts of a spring grassland fire in Lithuania. Four days after the fire we established a 400m sampling grid within the burned area and in an adjacent unburned area with the same topographical, hydrological and pedological characteristics. We collected topsoil samples immediately after the fire (0months), 2, 5, 7 and 9months after the fire. We analysed soil pH, electrical conductivity (EC), major nutrients including calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), and potassium (K), and the minor elements aluminium (Al), manganese (Mn), iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn). We also calculated the soil Na and K adsorption ratio (SPAR), Ca:Mg and Ca:Al. The results showed that this low-severity grassland fire significantly decreased soil pH, Al, and Mn but increased EC, Ca, Mg, and K,. There was no effect on Na, Fe, and Zn. There was a decrease of EC, Ca, Mg, and Na from 0months after the fire until 7months after the fire, with an increase during the last sampling period. Fire did not significantly affect SPAR. Ca:Mg decreased significantly immediately after the fire, but not to critical levels. Ca:Al increased after the fire, reducing the potential effects of Al on plants. Overall, fire impacts were mainly limited to the immediate period after the fire.

Magnetic measurements in a number of hydrocarbon structures suggest the existence of local magnetic anomalies with certain nT amplitude reflecting the structure contours of the oil and gas deposits, which could therefore be used as a criterion for identifying hydrocarbon traps. Hydrocarbon migration and the microseepage effect changing the composition of magnetic minerals and reaching as high as the near-surface areas and soils cause local magnetic anomalies and changes in the magnetic properties of soils. Magnetic studies on the Orchovychi oil and gas field, Carpathian Foredeep, Western Ukraine, revealed specific features of the local magnetic field and the magnetic properties of soil. A local magnetic anomaly with amplitude of 6-8 nT and a width of about 4 km was detected in the structure of the magnetic field within the Outer zone of the Carpathian Foredeep. The anomaly relates to hydrocarbon deposit areas with complex morphology. Magnetic susceptibility (MS) of soils in the Orhovychi oil and gas field showed a close correlation with landscape changes. Soils were found to show magnetic susceptibility anomalies in close proximity to productive hydrocarbon areas.

Карпенком) Магнитометрический раздел геофизики педосферы (почвенной оболочки Земли) является наиболее развитым относительно своей теории и методологии в контексте практического применения. Выделяются три основные задачи, стоящие перед педомагнитологией и касающиеся человечества. Это наращивание ресурсной базы, мониторинг состояния окружающей среды, углубленное изучение почвенного покрова в связи с его деградацией и необходимостью повышения продуктивности сельскохозяйственных земель. Почвенный покров является прямым отражением процессов, происходящих на контакте литосферы и атмосферы. Существуют два типа почвенного покрова. Это почвы с остаточным магнетизмом, магнитные свойства которых определяются литогенной основой и процессами ее выветривания. Роль таких почв в практической педомагнитологии на данный момент до конца неясна. Детальнее изучены почвы с педогенным генезисом магнитного сигнала, магнитные минералы которых сформировались в процессе развития почвенного профиля. Ведущую роль в формировании их магнитных свойств играют окислы и гидроокислы железа, в некоторых случаях сульфиды железа. Магнитная модель почвенного разреза может существенно изменяться под влиянием антропогенных и техногенных факторов. Магнитные параметры изменяются под воздействием выбросов транспорта, промышленных предприятий, теплоэлектростанций и т.д. Рельефообразование, форсируя плоскостной смыв, может существенно изменять соотношение между почвенными генетическими горизонтами. Также известны случаи, когда магнитные минералы осадочного происхождения образуются над залежами углеводородов под влиянием миграции их исходного флюида и могут изменять магнитные свойства почвы. Практическое применение этих моделей рассмотрено в статье на конкретных примерах. Ключевые слова: почва, магнетизм природных объектов, теория и методология, магнитная восприимчивость.
