Введение. Научная новизна исследования заключается в изучении сиблинговой позиции студентов для понимания того, какими социально важными личностными качествами они характеризуются в связи с этим фактором, какие последствия для них лично и общества это может иметь в ближайшей и отдаленной перспективе. Содержание статьи составляют результаты исследования социально важных личностных качеств студентов с различными сиблинговыми позициями. Изучались: эмпатия, направленность личности, альтруизм, жизненная позиция, степень адекватности восприятия жизни. По этим параметрам выполнен сравнительный анализ данных студентов – единственных, старших и младших детей в семье. Методы. Выборка из 150 студентов составлена случайным образом и разделена на три группы: единственные дети в семье, старшие дети, младшие дети. Методики: тест поликоммуникативной эмпатии И. М. Юсупова; методика определения типа направленности личности Б. Басса; тест альтруистической направленности; графическая методика «Жизнестойкость», выявляющая жизненную позицию и степень адекватности восприятия жизни. Результаты. Установлено, что изучаемые социально важные характеристики личности в большей степени присущи студентам – единственным детям в семье; между студентами-первенцами – единственными и старшими детьми в семье больше сходств, чем различий, но между ними и студентами – младшими детьми больше различий, чем сходств; показатели группы студентов – младших детей являются более низкими по сравнению с показателями двух других студенческих групп, за исключением альтруизма. Обсуждение результатов. Полученные в трех студенческих группах данные проинтерпретированы и адресованы семейным консультантам, психотерапевтам, психологам социальных служб, кураторам студенческих групп, а также любознательным родителям. Выявленные преимущества и уязвимости сиблинговой позиции студентов могут составить научное основание для разработки программ развития их социально важных качеств в условиях образовательного процесса вуза.
