У статті проаналізовано досвід професійної підготовки поліцейських Чеської та Словацької Республік. Встановлено, що функції охорони державного кордону виконує прикордонна поліція у Словаччині та іноземна поліція у Чехії. Уточнюються умови, яким повинні відповідати громадяни цих держав для вступу до їх відомчих навчальних закладів, та порядок прийому на навчання. Розкрито особливості професійної підготовки майбутніх фахівців-прикордонників у цих країнах, охарактеризовано зміст підготовки та навчальне навантаження студентів. Основну увагу приділено характеристиці освітніх рівнів професійної (поліцейської) освіти. Встановлено, що навчання у вищезазначених країнах має багато спільного. Зокрема, базову, спеціальну та середню професійну підготовку майбутніх поліцейських здійснюють середні професійно-технічні навчальні заклади, а саме п’ять регіональних училищ Чехії та три Словаччини. Спеціалістів прикордонної служби готують централізовано в деяких із вищезгаданих закладів, зокрема у Вищій і Середній поліцейській школі Міністерства внутрішніх справ у Голешові в Чехії та Середній професійній школі Поліцейського корпусу Міністерства внутрішніх справ Чехії. Кошице в Словаччині. Встановлено, що базова підготовка в основному включає наступні етапи: вступ до спеціальності, безпосереднє навчання, практика і завершальний етап навчання. Майбутні прикордонники здобувають вищу поліцейську освіту в академіях: The Police Academy в Празі (Чехія) та Academy of Police Corps в Братиславі (Словаччина). Ці заклади забезпечують навчання на всіх трьох рівнях освіти. Навчальне навантаження складає 60 кредитів на кожен навчальний рік. Навчальні плани, як правило, складаються з трьох блоків навчальних дисциплін: обов’язкових, обов’язкових фахових та дисциплін за вибором. Обов'язкові дисципліни є загальними для всіх спеціальностей. Обов'язкові фахові дисципліни вивчаються відповідно до спеціалізації. Дисципліни за вибором пропонуються абітурієнтам для набору необхідної кількості кредитів.
