Active inference seeks to maximize classification performance while minimizing the amount of data that must be labeled ex ante. This task is particularly relevant in the context of relational data, where statistical dependencies among instances can be exploited to improve classification accuracy. We show that efficient methods for indexing network structure can be exploited to select high-value nodes for labeling. This approach substantially outperforms random selection and selection based on simple measures of local structure. We demonstrate the relative effectiveness of this selection approach through experiments with a relational neighbor classifier on a variety of real and synthetic data sets, and identify the necessary characteristics of the data set that allow this approach to perform well.

Incorporation of H-3-leucine into proinsulin and insulinand insulin secretion were determined in isolated pancreatic islets of mice. Batches of forty islets were incubated for three hours at 0, 100 or 300 mg. per cent glucose alone or in the presence of glucagon, theophylline or cyclic AMP. Proinsulin and insulin were separated by gel filtration on columns of Sephadex C50 fine in 1 M. acetic acid.In the absence of glucose, no stimulation of insulin biosynthesis as judged from the incorporation of H-3-leucine was observed with glucagon, cyclic AMP or dibutyryl cyclic AMP; insulin, secretion was not significantly stimulated. At 100 and 300 mg. per cent glucose, both leucine incorporation and insulin secretion were potentiated by the substances tested; the effect of glucagon was pronounced mainly at high concentrations of glucose. However, leucine incorporation and insulin secretion were not stimulated to the same extent in all cases.Biosynthesis of insulin thus appears to be not always directly linked to insulin secretion. It is suggested that glucagon and the adenylcyclase system, besides regulating insulin secretion, are involved in insulin biosynthesis. The calibration of optical see-through head-mounted displays is an important fundament for correct object alignment in augmented reality. Any calibration process for OSTHMDs requires users to align 2D points in screen space with 3D points in the real world and to confirm each alignment. In this poster, we present the results of our empiric evaluation where we compared four confirmation methods: Keyboard, Hand-held, Voice, and Waiting. The Waiting method, designed to reduce head motion during confirmation, showed a significantly higher accuracy than all other methods. Averaging over a time frame for sampling user input before the time of confirmation improved the accuracy of all methods in addition. We conducted a further expert study proving that the results achieved with a video see-through head-mounted display showed valid for optical see-through head-mounted display calibration, too.

Thyroid hormone and glucose serum concentrations (SC) of carps (Cyprinus carpio L) have been monitored at weekly intervals throughout the year. T4 and rT3 concentrations were always below the limit of detection of the assays applied. T3 and glucose mean SC showed seasonal variations. Highest T3 SC were reached in summer with a peak value in August and lowest values in winter with a maximum in December. Glucose SC have been found to be highest in winter and lowest in summer. Statistical analysis showed a negative correlation between T3 and serum glucose SC (r = -0.77, P less than 0.001). The seasonal dependency of T3 and glucose SC suggest that either temperature, food intake or day-light or both might play a role in the regulation of glucose metabolism as well as of T3 production or metabolism.
