A sludy of the spectrmpic and scintillation properties of Ce doped YAlOg single crystals is presented. The relation between the method of cryslal growth in vacuum or by Ihe Czochralski method, and the above properlies was sludied specifically. Vacuum grown crystals show a scintillation light yield of a h 1 14000 photons per meg;releCvonvolt of absorbed x-cay energy. It is concluded that cation vacancies present in the Czochralski grown crystals cause a decrease of the light yield. The influence of colour centres such as F and Fcentres on the spectroscopic and scintillation pmpenies will be discussed.
