В роботі піднімається питання відповідності води з джерел централізованого та децентралізованого водопостачання в Україні і Черкаській області вимогам ДСанПіНу 2.2.4-171-10 «Гігієнічні вимоги до питної води, призначеної для споживання людиною», Закону України «Про питну воду та питне водопостачання», «Про забезпечення санітарного та епідемічного благополуччя». Висвітлено результати дослідження вмісту нітратів у централізованих водогонах та приватних свердловинах і колодязях населених пунктів Черкаського району. Встановлено, що у воді централізованих джерел водопостачання середня концентрація нітратів становила 24 мг/дм3, що не перевищує гранично-допустимий норматив. Однак у 2,8 % досліджених проб води джерел централізованого водопостачання спостерігалося незначне перевищення нормативних значень, а у воді окремих джерел воно становило 110 мг/дм3 (м. Умань, м. Тальне та ін.). Визначена середня концентрація нітратів у воді децентралізованих джерел водопостачання становила 44 мг/дм3, що в межах гранично-допустимого рівня, але у 18 % досліджених проб має місце відхилення від допустимої добової дози (ДДД – 50 мг/дм3) в 1,5–4,0 рази, і в окремих джерелах контролю (шахтні та трубні колодязі), становить 235 мг/дм3 і навіть 900 мг/дм3, що надзвичайно небезпечно для здоров’я населення, особливо для немовлят, добова норма для яких становить 2,5 мг/кг/добу. Вивчено питання дії нітратних сполук на організм людини, які у високих дозах швидко окиснюють гемоглобін крові в метгемоглобін, викликаючи циркуляторну та тканинну гіпоксію, блокують ферментні системи клітин організму, що призводить до порушення окиснювального фосфорилювання і нітратної метгемоглобінемії. Визначено можливі джерела надходження токсикантів у питну воду, розроблено рекомендації щодо її використання.
