У статті наведено доцільність створення самозапилених ліній нового покоління, для чого необхі-дно забезпечити потреби селекції у вихідному матеріалі з широкою генетичною основою та високою адаптивністю. Нові лінії можна одержати з кращих місцевих і селекційних сортів, популяцій, ран-ньостиглих і середньоранніх гібридів світової й вітчизняної селекції, синтетичних популяцій, а та-кож з пізньостиглих сортів та рас з південних країн. Польові дослідження були проведені на Усти-мівській дослідній станції рослинництва в науковій 5-пільній сівозміні 2014–2019 років. Матеріалом для досліджень слугували 300 місцевих, селекційних сортів та популяцій кукурудзи різного еколого-географічного походження з 16 країн світу. Дослідження виконували за таких умов: попередник – чорний пар; технологія вирощування включала своєчасне проведення комплексу агротехнічних заходів з обробітку ґрунту та догляду за рослинами, типовою для зони Лівобережного Лісостепу України; сівбу проводили в кінці квітня або на початку травня у 2-х кратній повторності; площа ділянки 4,9 м2; стандартами слугували гібриди Харківський 193 МВ, Харківський 295 МВ, Харківський 313 МВ. Застосовані методики вивчення дали змогу диференціювати колекційні зразки та виділити найбільш цінні, як джерела господарських та селекційно-цінних ознак за різними напрямами селек-ційного використання – за урожайністю та її складниками, якістю продукції, стійкістю до стресо-вих кліматичних факторів тощо. За результатами вивчення цієї колекції генофонду кукурудзи ство-рено «Каталог генетичного різноманіття стародавніх, місцевих, селекційних сортів та популяцій кукурудзи (Zea Mays L.) колекції Устимівської дослідної станції рослинництва».
