The present work investigates the applicability of the RAFT polymerization method for the polymerization of protonated diallylammonium monomers that proceeds with an efficient chain transfer to the monomer. It has been shown that in the course of radical polymerization of diallylammonium trifluoroacetate in the presence of a radical initiator and xanthate as a RAFT agent, polydiallylammonium trifluoroacetate with a narrow molecular weight distribution (MWD) is obtained. The structure of the polymer was confirmed by 1 H NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. Molecular weight and MWD were determined by light scattering, diffusion sedimentation analysis, and analytical sedimentation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
