Insulation systems for buildings and structures imply the use of efficient thermal insulation products based on mineral wool, expanded polystyrene, expanded polyurethane, etc. For a long time, products from non-cross-linked expanded polyethylene were used as insulation for pipelines, reflective insulation, protection against air infiltration, etc. Modern technologies and engineering solutions allowed widening the field of application of non-cross-linked expanded polyethylene (NXLPE) as a construction insulation material. In particular, we can consider a complex of insulation systems for walls, floors and a pitched roof, which allows to form a fully insulating shell of a low-rise building, e.g. a cottage. The novelty of the patented technology Tepofol® and that of the material concerned in comparison with the known solutions is the development of a rolled material based on NXLPE (20 to 150 mm thick) with a lock joint, as well as the technology of seamless connection of individual heat-insulating cloths. The rolls of NXLPE are mechanically fixed to the frame and connected with the lock. One of the advantages of expanded polyethylene, which only few insulating materials possess, is the possibility of forming seamless insulating shells. The article considers a number of insulation systems based on the use of products from expanded polyethylene. In particular, these are the systems of insulation of the walls of frame buildings, the insulation of floors, as well as the insulation of logistics facilities and hangars.

The article discusses the results of studying the thermotechnical properties and energy saving factors of insulation systems based on mineral wool products and products based on extruded polystyrene foam under conditions close to natural ones. The studies were carried out on the basis of the hypothesis according to which the heat-saving characteristics of the facade insulation systems are most dependent on the thermal resistance along the surface of the wall, on the thermotechnical uniformity of the insulating sheath and on the stability of the properties of the heat-insulating materials under real operating conditions. The implemented complex made it possible to establish that the smallest difference between the air temperature in the room and the surface temperature in the lower zone was achieved on a fragment of the building envelope with a mounted facade system with XPS as insulation. For the same type of facade system, the maximum heat transfer resistance in the lower zone of the building envelope was reached - 2.72 m2 ° C / W for the cold period of the year, which significantly exceeds the characteristics of the system of mounted ventilated facades with mineral wool thermal insulation in the corresponding zones. The factor of “additional warming” from the soil, which is used to justify the rejection of warming in the buried part of the structure, does not work in the cold season. Flooding at thezone with the junction of the wall with the soil significantly affects the values and nature of the distribution of operating humidity inside the insulation layers.

The article analyzes the properties of wares based on continuous and staple basalt fiber which offers high fire-resistance, thermal insulation capacity, vibrancy resistance, noiseproofing, as well as chemical durability including durability to arctic atmosphere and marine climate effects. That sort of fiber is a core for construction fabric, canvas and special-purpose products. The research findings of usage of modifying mineral additions as part of basalt working mass are reported. Modifiers’ introduction allows to decrease temperature interval of working mass’ melting by 80-100 ‘C. Herewith optimal melt’s amorphy degree is reached within the temperature range of working mass melting of 1400-1520 ‘C. It causes energy intensity’s reduction while manufacturing fabrics and the ability of using more technological smelting units and ways to rework the melt into a fiber. Fabrication of special buildings’ engineering structures isolation systems using basalt fiber fabrics, canvas and fire-resistant rolled materials which guarantees standard value of thermal resistance is proposed.
