Глобалне структуралне неједнакости за посљедицумогу имати масовно осјећање депресије, опши пораст несигурности и страха од губитка животних шанси и друштвене маргинализације. Најтежи облици криминалитета, попут организованог и насилничког,најзаступљенији су у друштвима са великим социјалним разликама, као и друштвима са високом стопом сиромаштва и незапослености. Неједнакост у приступу политичкој и свакој другој моћи, образовању, здравственој њези и правној заштити, карактеристични су облици структуралног насиља које је обично невидљиво и извире из саме друштвене структуре која предодређује положај људи сходно њиховим економским, етничким, полним, културолошким или политичким обиљежјима. Пораст сиромаштва, незапослености и аномије увећава компетитивност између људи, умањује солидарност, разара социјалну кохезију и нормативни систем. Стање друштвене дезорганизације карактерише не само распад неформалног система вриједности и облигација, већ и слабљење формалног система, што ствара услове за продуковање још веће дезорганизације која исходи све већим стопама криминалитета и укупног нивоа насиља у друштву. Због дуге традиције и релативне стабилности, структуралне неједнакости се манифестују и виде као ‘’нормалан’’ поредак ствари, рационализован моћнимкултуролошким дефиницијама које се трансмитују са генерације на генерацију, што им омогућава да вјечно опстају. Социјалне напетости и слабо друштвено регулисана социјална компетиција производе један посебан облик насиља који се зове структурално насиље. То је насиљекоје настаје као посљедица материјалне осујећености, друштвене инфериорности, осјећаја личне неадекватности појединаца, лоше социјалне промоције широких слојева и група становништва. Зато и није изненађење да се они чије су животне шансе истопљене, а то су великим дијелом млади, одлучују и на насиље и криминалитет као пут личног, али и (само)деструктивног испољавања.
