У статті аналізується головна праця одного з найвидатніших представників епохи західноєвропейського Відродження, філософа-неоплатоніка, теолога та гуманіста Миколи Кузанського «Про вчене незнання», а також трактат «Про припущення» як органічне доповнення вказаної праці. Сформульована стрижнева ідея статті, яка полягає у твердженні про те, що незважаючи на свій високий статус кардинала католицької церкви і на те, що цей пост передбачав спрямовування всього свого інтелекту на розроблення та вдосконалення теологічної доктрини, що Микола Кузанський і робив, однією з головних тем свого вчення, поряд із теологічною тематикою, цей мислитель визначив людину та її життєдіяльність, основним смисложиттєвим призначенням якої є самореалізація її особистості та самотворення. Наводяться основні визначення феномену самореалізації особистості – проблеми, яка була актуалізована лише в минулому столітті відомим американським дослідником А. Маслоу, якого від німецького вченого відділяє більше п’яти століть. Цей факт вигідно характеризує М. Кузанського як мислителя, який одним із перших у західноєвропейській інтелектуалістиці точно вловив світоглядний дух Відродження як епохи, яка проголосила так звані «пошуки індивідуальності». Висвітлено знамениту концепцію М. Кузанського про максимум і мінімум, показана їх діалектика, яка полягає в їхній протилежності та водночас у збігу. Наведені рядки із праці «Про вчене незнання», які характеризують дану проблематику. Обґрунтовано ідею людини як максимуму та як мінімуму, показано її життєдіяльність у цьому контексті. Сформульовано низку положень щодо самореалізації людського індивіда, які, за припущенням, а також виходячи з тексту та духу трактатів «Про вчене незнання» та «Про припущення», можна віднести й до поглядів М. Кузанського про природу та призначення людини як такої. Ідеться про анаксагорівське «кожен – у кожному», про що пише М. Кузанський, про можливості (а фактично неможливість) людського пізнання максимуму, а також про самотворення як смисложиттєве призначення людини. Усі теоретичні викладки статті підтверджені витримками з указаних праць М. Кузанського.
