Комплекс предполевых космогеологических методов поисков полезных ископаемых предназначен для того, чтобы оперативно и как можно более полно осмысливать и выражать картографически всю геологическую информацию (наземную и дистанционную, предшественников и полученную вновь) на основе космических изображений в видимых и инфракрасных диапазонах. По результатам исследований обосновываются решения о выборе лицензионных участков, объемах дорогостоящих полевых работ, существенно сокращается стоимость поисков полезных ископаемых за счет своевременной отбраковки пустых территорий и оконтуривания вероятных залежей полезных ископаемых (нефти, газа, подземных вод, гидротермальных источников энергии, твердых полезных ископаемых, при наличии геологических аналогов – с подсчетом локализованных ресурсов).
Впервые рассчитана объемная цифровая модель поля теплового излучения и относительной водонасыщенности недр в зоне столкновения Аравийской плиты с Евразийской. На основе геодинамического анализа рельефа, данных предшественников по картированию поверхности, построения карт комбинаций космических снимков в различных каналах, на основе интерпретации гравиметрических данных, опубликованных сейсмических разрезов выполнена целевая, направленная на поиски углеводородного сырья интерпретация поля теплового излучения и поля относительной водонасыщенности недр на глубину 6 км. В потенциально перспективной западной зоне локализовано 24 объекта общей площадью 305 км2 с термодинамическими обстановками, благоприятными для промышленных скоплений углеводородов. Более половины прогнозируемых залежей приходится на ордовикские терригенные породы (?), остальные – на конгломераты и грейнстоуны или первично пористые биогенные карбонатные породы и трещиноватые кремнисто-карбонатные породы в стратиграфическом интервале от триаса до мела. Вероятные покрышки – меловые мадстоуны в тектонических пластинах, а также покровы ультраосновных и основных пород. Предположительный состав углеводородного сырья в порядке преобладания: газ, конденсат, нефть.
