Despite the abundance and quite high methodological level of studies within the framework of cognitive psychology, more and more authors, including eminent representatives of cognitive psychology itself, have begun in recent years to undertake a critical assessment of the relationship between the efforts expended and actual progress. There has even emerged a notable opposition to extreme and overly hasty generalizations based on particular achievements in the domain of artificial intelligence and computer vision, achievements that continue to have a tremendous influence on cognitive psychology [ 1,2].One shortcoming, acknowledged by all, in contemporary foreign research on cognitive processes, independent of the philosophy of dialectical materialism, is the lack of a unified theoretical conception. Johnson-Laird [3. P. 1081 asks: "Wenty years of intense investigation of information processing in humans has still not resulted in the formulation of general principles. Moreover, it seems that this task is, generally speaking, irresolvable. What should be done?" Another author acknowledges that behind the specious persuasiveness of psychological journals lies an ever-growing uncertainty [4]. What is the reason for these reassessments of the prospects of a trend that was to have produced a revolution in views on the nature of man? As Jerry Fodor writes: Russian text 0 1982 by Moscow University Press. "Metodologicheskie problemy kognitivnoi psikhologii" [Methodological problems in cognitive psychology].
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
