In the article, the authors examined the impact of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic on the global economy. In particular, attention was paid to the current state and prospects for the development of small businesses in the tourism sector. The viral pandemic has affected not only the health of citizens, but also all sectors of the economy, including tourism. The authors considered legislative documents and scientific works of scientists related to entrepreneurship, as well as entrepreneurship in the field of tourism.The history of the origin and current interpretation of the concepts of" entrepreneur "and" entrepreneurship " is revealed. Categories of business entities and conditions of functioning of small businesses were indicated. The analysis of the current state of international tourism and small businesses in the field of tourism in Kazakhstan was carried out. Indicators of the number of registered and active small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the number of legal entities registered in the tourism sector were determined.A comparative analysis of the number of visitors in Kazakhstan and neighboring countries and the contribution of tourism to GDP was carried out. An analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic on tourism and the expected recovery period was also carried out. Thus, the importance of developing entrepreneurship in tourism and state support in this area was revealed.
