Η παρούσα διατριβή εκπονήθηκε με στόχο να διερευνήσει θέματα πιστωτικού κινδύνου του Δημοσίου καθώς και νομισματικής πολιτικής στην Ευρωζώνη, κατά την περίοδο της πρόσφατης παγκόσμιας χρηματοοικονομικής κρίσης και κρίσης χρέους στις χώρες του Ευρώ. Οι κρίσεις αυτές αποδόμησαν τη σταθερότητα των χρηματοοικονομικών αγορών, καθώς επίσης συνέβαλλαν στην τόνωση των αλληλεξαρτήσεων μεταξύ διαφορετικών χωρών αυξάνοντας σημαντικά τον κίνδυνο μετάδοσης των διαταραχών από τις χώρες υπό διάσωση σε άλλες χώρες μέλη. Οι κρίσεις αυτές όμως ανέδειξαν και κενά στην διάρθρωση της συμβατικής και μη συμβατικής νομισματικής πολιτικής που υιοθετήθηκε από τις Ευρωπαϊκές Κεντρικές Τράπεζες, καθώς και διαφορές μεταξύ νομισματικών πολιτικών που ακολουθήθηκαν.Ιδιαίτερη σημασία στην παρούσα διατριβή δόθηκε στον ρόλο που έπαιξε κατά τη διάρκεια της χρηματοοικονομικής κρίσης, το συναίσθημα των επενδυτών αλλά και οι προσδοκίες που αναπτύχτηκαν για την πορεία της οικονομίας. Συγκεκριμένα, προσπαθήθηκε μέσω εμπειρικής μελέτης να δοθεί απάντηση στο κατά πόσο το επενδυτικό συναίσθημα ήταν καθοριστικός παράγοντας στην αποτίμηση του πιστωτικού κινδύνου στις χώρες της Ευρωζώνης, αλλά και στο κατά πόσο οι οικονομικές προσδοκίες/συναίσθημα των επενδυτών επηρεάστηκαν από την συμβατική πολιτική που ακολούθησε η Ευρωπαϊκή Κεντρική Τράπεζα και από τα μη συμβατικά νομισματικά μέτρα που κλήθηκε να πάρει εν μέσω κρίσης.
