Στην παρούσα διατριβή μελετάται το πρόβλημα της αλληλεπίδρασης μεταξύ της ηλεκτρονικής δέσμης και των ηλεκτρομαγνητικών κυμάτων σε σύνθετες διατάξεις κυματοδηγών, με εφαρμογές σε λυχνίες παραγωγής μικροκυματικής και χιλιοστομετρικής ακτινοβολίας. Η μελέτη του φυσικού προβλήματος γίνεται με χρήση των εξισώσεων Maxwell σε διαφορική μορφή, ώστε να μπορούν να εισάγονται και οι κατάλληλες συνοριακές συνθήκες στα όρια της διάταξης. Επειδή η γεωμετρία της διάταξης μπορεί να είναι πολύπλοκη, η επίλυση του προβλήματος απαιτεί κατάλληλο αριθμητικό κώδικα, ο οποίος εκτός των εξισώσεων Maxwell θα επιλύει με αυτοσυνεπή τρόπο και τις εξισώσεις κίνησης της ηλεκτρονικής δέσμης. Ο κώδικας αυτός εφαρμόζει τη μέθοδο FDTD για την επίλυση του ηλεκτρομαγνητικού προβλήματος σε κυλινδρικές συντεταγμένες και τη μέθοδο PIC για το πρόβλημα της αλληλεπίδρασης δέσμης-κυμάτων. Αρχικά, χρησιμοποιήθηκε για τη μελέτη διατάξεων κυλινδρικών κυματοδηγών χωρίς την παρουσία ηλεκτρονικής δέσμης (πρόβλημα ψυχρής διάταξης) και στη συνέχεια μελετήθηκαν διατάξεις και με την παρουσία δέσμης (πρόβλημα θερμής διάταξης). Στις διατάξεις αυτές περιλαμβάνονται κυματοδηγοί με περιοδική αξονική επιφανειακή αυλάκωση (με ή χωρίς διηλεκτρικό υλικό) καθώς και κυματοδηγοί με περιοδική αζιμουθιακή επιφανειακή αυλάκωση. Για τις διατάξεις αυτές υπολογίστηκαν αρχικά οι πεδιακές κατανομές και στη συνέχεια από αυτές βρέθηκαν τα χαρακτηριστικά διάδοσης των διαφόρων ρυθμών καθώς και οι παράμετροι σκέδασης. Επιπλέον, για την περίπτωση του λείου κυματοδηγού καθώς και αυτού με αξονική αυλάκωση, υπολογίστηκαν οι πεδιακές κατανομές και τα χαρακτηριστικά της αλληλεπίδρασης των ηλεκτρομαγνητικών πεδίων με την ηλεκτρονική δέσμη, ενώ έγιναν και παραμετρικές μελέτες για την επίδραση των χαρακτηριστικών της διάταξης και της ηλεκτρονικής δέσμης στην αλληλεπίδραση αυτή. Τα αριθμητικά αποτελέσματα εμφανίζουν ικανοποιητική συμφωνία με τα αντίστοιχα θεωρητικά καθώς και με τα αποτελέσματα από άλλους αριθμητικούς κώδικες και εμπορικά εργαλεία.
