Ferrara intrastromal corneal rings reduced corneal steepening and normalized the central cornea in eyes with keratoconus. Ferrara ring implantation was a safe procedure that may be considered in patients who are unable to have other surgical techniques, particularly contact-lens-intolerant keratoconus patients whose only option is corneal transplantation.
The structural corneal changes induced by LASIK appeared to influence GAT and NCT measurements but not PDCT measurements. Therefore, PDCT may be better suited for monitoring IOP in unoperated eyes and in eyes that have had LASIK.
Sleep-disturbed breathing may be a risk factor for NTG. Although we do not provide evidence for a cause-and-effect relationship, various physiologic factors produced by sleep-disturbed breathing may play a significant role in the pathogenesis of this optic neuropathy. We recommend obtaining a sleep history from patients with NTG and performing polysomnography in those patients with sleep disturbance symptoms.
